Creating the Boutique Bedroom in the Grand Shed Project
You may have seen a few snippets on social media about the Grand Shed Project at Grand Designs Live this week. We have been busy with preparations for this over the last few weeks. We were selected with 4 other designers to transform a traditional garden shed into an inviting space of our choice. Our design was a boutique bedroom, an extension of your home and a space where you could feel proud to host overnight guests.
The shed in question was supplied by Walton's Garden Buildings, a 10 x 8 Waltons Tradesman Tongue and Groove Double Door Apex Wooden Shed.
We had access to the sheds from midday on Wednesday to begin the transformation for the opening of Grand Designs Live on Saturday.
The initial work all involved painting, which instantly changed the look and feel of the shed. We used Valspar Masonry paint, suitable for wood and brickwork. This paint has excellent coverage and is touch try within 1 hour. These were key factors to helping us get everything completed on time. The colour scheme for the space was cool and calming tones and to achieve this we used Blanc de Blanc on the main walls and ceilings and Driftwood Blues as an accent tone to the back wall and doors.
To transform the flooring and make it feel warm and inviting we installed Quickstep Impressive laminate in Saw Cut Oak Grey, which is an interlocking system making it simple and quick to install. Once the flooring and painting was completed there was a huge transformation in the look and feel of the space.
Fixtures and Fittings
Walls painted and flooring in we could set about installing the shelving, artwork, furniture and accessories. We were fortunate enough to work with some great suppliers on this project who enabled us to completely transform the shed.
